2007 is a landmark year for the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program (RAiR), marking 40 years of in-residence grants to notable emerging and established artists from throughout the world. This is also the year that a new and improved residency complex opens on a private 40 acre parcel of land on the outskirts of Roswell.

In 1967, local artist, businessman, and philanthropist Donald Anderson conceived of a program that would provide “a gift of time to artists for 6 months to one year, providing a communal setting for up to six artists at a time to concentrate on their work without distraction. As the principal underwriter of this enterprise, Anderson approached the Roswell Museum and Art Center to oversee the operation of the program, thus launching one of the most important and successful public-private partnerships in the history of artist-in-residence programs. Today, the RMAC serves as the venue for artist-in-residence exhibitions and in this remarkable 40th year we are honored to present the work of 130 artists that have participated in the program.
