Roswell Artist-in-Residence: Mimi Kato
November 22, 2008 - January 4, 2009
mimi kato
Mimi Kato, Yokzi Zyukkei: End of Journey (detail), 2008, digital print.
Fascinated with the landscape in New Mexico, Mimi Kato creates a series of photographs that tell a story of her imaginary creatures living secretly out in the New Mexican desert. In her photographs and through objects that she refers to as artifacts, Kato creates a series of myths that have never been told before.

Mimi Kato, born in Nara, Japan in 1974, has lived and worked in the United States since 1998. Mimi Kato received a MFA from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2006. Kato’s recent exhibitions include Fox Wedding at the Ballina Art Center in Ballina, Ireland, Fotonoviembre in Canary Island, Spain and Dance of Communication at the Dallas Center For Contemporary Art in Dallas, Texas.

This exhibition is presented in partnership with the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program and the Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art. For more information on these programs, please visit their websites at: www.rair.org and www.roswellamoca.org
