An artist’s life is one that many romanticize but very few people choose for their life’s occupation. It is a journey that at the best of times is arduous, balancing the material and aesthetic worlds and being responsible to one’s family and to the demands of the work in the studio, yet there are those individuals that make the conscious choice to lead a creative life of discovery. They are compelled to move forward through times of struggle and do not become complacent in times of great reward. Peter Rogers is just such an individual. For over sixty years he has strived as an artist with disciplined resolve to develop and maintain his progress in the studio exploring his inner vision to share with the world. The RMAC is proud to present Peter Rogers: A Painter’s Progress, the first major museum retrospective of Rogers’s rich artistic legacy. This landmark exhibit celebrates Rogers’s multifaceted abilities as a painter with fine examples of portraiture, landscape painting, and his visionary themes associated with The Quest. The exhibition highlights a representative selection of drawings and paintings on loan from many private and corporate collections in the region, paying tribute to the artist’s work from 1949 to 2009. For more than sixty years friends, champions, and patrons have known the masterful work of Peter Rogers. It is our hope that with this exhibition, Peter Rogers: A Painter’s Progress, a greater audience will come to know a true visionary of our time. |
